Incubation at JCA seeks to extend outward the academic model into enterprise and also to benefit pedagogy and research from inward innovation and links from industry. For incubatees, this gives students and graduates familiarity of space and people and for local SME’s access to knowledge and resources.
Extensive research from findings listed in reports such as, Nesta, PWC, and Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) has suggested that it is important to create the right mix of companies in incubation to develop the desired ecosystem to encourage innovation.
Incubation at the Academy will focus on nurturing new technologies that advance fashion and fashion related industries through, for example, Smart Textiles, Wearable Technology, Haptics, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Augmented Reality (AR). These new technologies will complement the JCA Curriculum and can advance course delivery and learner experience across the institution.
The Fashion Industry is no exception and there are already many scopes for application (e.g. Machine Learning for Marketing and Advertising) and many for development and opportunities to gain an edge in such a competitive market. It is evident that engaging with start-ups linked to Emerging Technology can be an opportunity for IP sharing and IP commercialisation that can become an added revenue stream for the institution.
Incubation cannot be seen as a single activity. At JCA, we take a lifecycle approach

The flagship JCA incubator is located in the heart of Mayfair; a prestigious address just a stones throw from the city’s most iconic high-fashion emporia.
The programme is established to nurture entrepreneurs and businesses during their early months or years. It will offer affordable space, shared offices and services, hand-on management training, marketing support and, often, access to some form of financing.
