Creating fashion and understanding the possibilities is the foundation for your career in fashion. Whether you are looking to build a future in fashion or wish to have a creative experience that embraces making a product for yourself or someone else, this one-week course inspires, embraces learning new skills, enables access to knowledge on customisation and you will be taught the key skill of how to use a sewing machine. You will discover the possibilities of design with bringing in one or more pieces of no longer used clothing. (This can be from your own wardrobe, or someone else's, if you have permission to cut, sew and customise it!) During the course you will be encouraged to be as creative as you wish. Your final piece will be a customised garment or accessory. You will have use of the domestic sewing machines, over lockers and an exclusive JCA customising station. Understanding the fundamentals of extending life cycles of products is a conscientious way to engage within the fashion arena. This course will be delivered in English.
Meet the mentorsIn this week-long course, you will be introduced to the equipment, build confidence with the use of hand sewing and safety with machine usage. A full demonstration of the sewing machines, and a tutorial on the use of the JCA customisation station will enable you the ability to create, sketch, create mood boards and then realise an approved design. The create & make JCA mentor will have a scheduled skill-up studio session, where you will focus on a design skill to apply to your piece. You will demonstrate your knowledge within a studio session create-up time. All the opportunities are within JCA studio space to reimagine your recycled pieces. You will leave with piece to be proud of, recreated from old to new.
On completion of this skill building, inspiring course, you will have knowledge of hand sewing skills, use of a domestic machine. Understanding of the importance of the lifecycle of a garment. Why create & make can mean customisation and imagination.

We like to celebrate our achievements at JCA. On completion of the course if you have attended 80% of the classes you will qualify for your certificate in dedication to learning.
